Install Synaps
Synaps lives entirely inside Jira Cloud. There is nothing to download, nothing to host, and no configuration step before you can start using it.
A Jira admin installs Synaps from the Marketplace, and a minute later every user on the site can open it. Day-to-day use only needs standard Jira access.
01. What you need
- A Jira Cloud site. Synaps is a Cloud-only app and does not run on Data Center or Server.
- Site admin permissions to install it the first time.
- Nothing else. No servers, no databases, no API keys.
02. Install from the Marketplace
In Jira:
- Open Apps in the top navigation, then Explore more apps.
- Search for Synaps and open the listing.
- Click Try it free to start a 30-day trial, or Buy now if you already know you want it.
Atlassian handles the rest. The first install takes a few seconds; you will see Synaps appear under Apps in Jira's navigation as soon as it is ready.
03. Open Synaps for the first time
Once installed, anyone on the site can open Synaps from Apps in Jira's navigation, under Your apps. The first time the app opens it will scan your projects for dependencies; from then on it loads instantly.
What to do next:
- Read Your first scan to understand what happens during that initial scan, and how to refresh later.
- Then jump to Reading the map to learn how to make sense of the picture in front of you.
- To publish maps to Confluence, a site admin also completes the one-time Confluence connection.
04. Trial, paid, and free
Synaps is sold as a paid app on the Atlassian Marketplace, with a 30-day free trial that unlocks every feature. After the trial:
- Standard (free) keeps the global map, navigation, the edge inspector, and blocked-chain detection.
- Advanced adds Filters, Table View, and export to Confluence, Markdown, CSV, PDF, and PNG.
You will see a small banner inside Synaps when your trial is approaching its end. The full lifecycle is documented in Subscription and trial.
05. Uninstalling
A Jira admin can remove Synaps the same way they added it: Apps -> Manage your apps -> Synaps -> Uninstall. Nothing inside your Jira projects is changed. Synaps only ever reads issue links to draw the map.
