Subscription and trial

Synaps is sold through the Atlassian Marketplace and requires an active subscription. This page explains what you see at each stage so you are never surprised by a banner or a locked screen.

All billing happens in the Atlassian Marketplace. Synaps never asks for a credit card or handles payments inside the app.

01. With no active license

When there is no active subscription, a full-screen page appears in place of the map, with:

  • A short explanation of why the map is unavailable.
  • A Manage subscription button - opens the Atlassian Universal Plugin Manager scrolled to Synaps, where an admin can buy or reactivate the subscription.
  • A few support links - typically a docs link, a support ticket link, and a contact-your-admin link (configurable by your Jira admin - see Admin support links).

If your subscription ends in the middle of a session (for example it lapses while a tab is left open), Synaps detects this automatically the next time it tries to talk to Jira, and switches to the no-license screen. There is no need to refresh the page.

[ADD SCREENSHOT/IMAGE: Full no-license screen taking over the canvas — short headline, explanatory paragraph, prominent "Manage subscription" button in primary blue, and three support links below it with small icons.]

02. On a trial

If you are on the trial:

Trial stateWhat you see
More than 7 days leftA small amber banner at the top of the canvas tells you the day count. You can dismiss it for the session.
7 days or lessA stronger warning banner replaces the soft one. It cannot be dismissed, and the wording sharpens as you get closer to the end - "expires in 3 days", "expires in 1 day", "expires today".
Trial endedThe no-license screen takes over with friendlier "Your trial has ended" wording and a Reactivate your subscription button.

The banner respects the Hide UI toggle (H shortcut). If you have hidden the chrome to give the canvas more room, the banner hides with it - see Distraction-free viewing.

[ADD SCREENSHOT/IMAGE: Three stacked banner states above the canvas — soft amber "13 days left in trial" banner with a dismiss x, stronger amber "Trial expires in 3 days" banner with no dismiss, and the trial-ended takeover screen with a "Reactivate your subscription" primary button.]

03. What admins control

Your Jira admin controls:

  • The subscription itself (buying, renewing, cancelling) - through the Manage Apps page in Jira.
  • The list of support links shown on the no-license screen - through the Synaps admin page. See Admin support links for the full editing flow.

04. Free and Pro features

While on a trial, every feature is unlocked - including Split View and Export. After the trial:

  • Free tier keeps the global map and basic navigation.
  • Pro tier unlocks Split View and the full export suite (Confluence, Markdown, CSV, PDF, PNG).

The Marketplace listing is the source of truth for pricing; Synaps does not handle billing inside the app.

05. Why a 'no license' screen instead of just blocking you

Synaps shows a real page (not a Jira-style error) so you always have a way out: a button to manage the subscription, links to docs and support, and a way to contact your admin. Even when the map is unavailable, the app stays helpful.
